LAUGHTER THERAPY: HAVING FUN WHILE YOU GET BETTER

University of California researchers Dr. Lee Berk and Dr. David Felten say a study of 48 heart patients who’s therapy included thirty minutes of humor a day had fewer abnormal heart rates, lower blood pressure, and required less heart medication.

Even more amazing, a year later only 8 percent of those who watched the funny videos suffered a heart attack, compared to 42 percent of those in standard therapy.

Berk and Felten found that laughter is a terrifically valuable therapeutic aid. Lots of laughter is beneficial not just for heart patients but for everyone, whether sick or healthy. It improves one’s quality of life, can help illnesses get better, and seems to keep healthy people healthy longer.

Even Catholic nuns at the Sisters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul of Suwon, Korea, are using laughter therapy programs to “help experience God, who laughs brightly in our daily lives.” One Sister said her laugh therapy makes her feel “five years younger.”

Research has shown that a steady diet of laughs:

  • Boosts immune function
  • Lowers blood pressure by reducing stress hormones that constrict blood vessels and suppress immune activity and decreases dopamine levels – high levels are associated with elevated blood pressure
  • Increases muscle flexion, and relaxes muscles throughout the body
  • Triggers the release of endorphins, the body’s natural painkillers
  • Stimulates the function of heart and lungs
  • Improves alertness, memory and creativity

The side effects on our immune systems are very important for both fighting existing illnesses and as a preventative measure. Laughter accomplishes this by:

  • Raising the levels of infection-fighting T-cells
  • The need for a reduction in the number of hours that medical residents are permitted to work in a single shift
  • Raising the levels of disease-fighting proteins called Gamma-interferon
  • Raising the levels of B-cells which produce disease-destroying antibodies

Laughter is being used therapeutically at numerous hospitals around the country, even some cancer hospitals. No news yet on whether the Korean nuns laughter will be heard by other churches around the world. But thanks to the latest medical research, now we know exactly why laughter is such good medicine.

MY THOUGHTS:

We don’t need to wait to be sick to use this inexpensive treatment. I personally have a hard time being “happy”. It takes a little more effort to laugh. I enjoy my life, but I am a melancholy type person who sees reality and all it’s dark shades. I wish I could be more carefree and hilarious. Thankfully, I am blessed to have married someone who loves to laugh and enjoys the comedy of life daily.

It’s sometimes a challenge to be positive.  This website is actually an attempt of mine to keep looking for GOODNESS. As we see all the GOOD in the world, endorphins and positive feelings overwhelm our bodies, maybe even healing. I have come to find that surrounding myself with positive people also helps.  My dear friend Mihaela has the most infectious laugh.  I know for a fact that when people hear her laugh, they feel better.  On the other hand, when I read people’s negative comments through various social media, I feel heavy and frustrated.  It’s not anyone’s “fault” but we do have a responsibility in community with one another to encourage health and wellness.  We have the ability to spur one another on by laughter and positivity.

Think about this today and make an effort to heal those around you with your laughter and good thoughts.  Try a good belly laugh out soon! :)

The Flu Caught You?

Global Healing Center wrote some amazing tips on what to to when the flu hits you.  I hope these are encouraging to you as you try to get better.  I linked some of the solutions to our Shaklee Supplements for your convenience, but most of these you can find at your local grocery store!

10 Natural Remedies for the Flu

As we enter into the flu season, chances are that many people will experience the pesky effects of a cold or flu. Highly contagious, colds are the name we give for over 100 mild viral influenza forms floating in the air, on surfaces and in our bodies.

There are many natural ways to both prevent and reduce the symptoms of the common cold and raise your immunity during this vulnerable season. If you follow these recommendations, chances are your flu catching ability may be prevented, wont last as long, or be quite so severe.

1. Vitamin D

Boosting up on Vitamin D helps to prevent colds and flu. This may be related to the necessary role this vitamin plays in the protection and lubrication of many of the body’s principle organ systems. It also boosts cellular growth and immune cell activity, and lowers the inflammatory response. I recommend 15 minutes daily of natural sunlight, consuming more foods with vitamin d and possibly taking a vitamin D3 supplement.

2. Vitamin C & Citrus Fruits

If you have had a lingering cold that just wont go away, chances are you are not getting enough vitamin C. A powerful support for the common cold, you can take up to 2000mg four times daily. Fresh squeezed lemon is also a good way to naturally supplement vitamin C levels. The benefits of drinking lemon juice mixed in water go beyond the naturally occurring vitamin C. Lemons aid the body in purifying the lymphatic system, which is a crucial component of fighting off colds. Squeeze ½ lemon in one cup of purified warm water and drink 3 or more times daily. For particularly mucous-ridden colds, you can add black pepper and fresh or powdered ginger.

3. Zinc Orotate

Double blind studies have shown that zinc reduces both the intensity and the duration of the common cold by up to 50%. I personally take a zinc supplement when I want a strong anti-viral response. Zinc Orotates increase lysosome activity, which attacks viruses and has been an effective immune booster for the flu by lowering the viral load. Try taking a zinc supplement.

4. Organic Oregano Oil

An extremely potent anti-bacterial and anti-microbial agent that relieves congestion and inflammation. I recommend about 9 drops of organic oregano oil taken internally in a capsule after meals on a full stomach.

5. Organic Turmeric

An amazing herbal remedy, turmeric is a strong antimicrobial that helps push out out bacterial and viral infections. You can purchase in capsule forms, or you can buy the herb fresh or dried. For a cold-fighting tea, place a ¼ tsp. in hot purified water and drink often. This herbal jewel also helps ease sore throats. For a throat-coat for comfort, place 1/2 tsp. of turmeric in 2 tablespoons of raw honey and let seep down the throat.

6. Organic Germanium-132

Another great flu remedy is Germanium-132. I recommend taking about 600mg daily. The best source is available at: JARROW Formulas Germanium Ge-132 100 mg. – 60 Capsules. I would also suggest googling “Organic Germanium-132″ to discover more benefits, but I would definitely recommend reading this article about Germanium-132 for attacking viruses.

7. Organic Echinecea

An immune booster, this herb is a strong anti-viral and anti-bacterial agent. It is also a potent blood purifier, and overly-toxic blood may lead to flu and cold responses. Echinecea has also been shown to increase immune-boosting white blood cell counts in the body. If you have a cold, take 3 droppers full of tincture in warm water or drink as a tea.

8. Raw Apple Cider Vinegar

A well-known natural healing agent, Apple Cider Vinegar is a good herb to take with a cold. Drink a mixture of 1/2 cup of purified water with 2 teaspoons of organic raw apple cider vinegar 3 times daily until symptoms disappear. After consuming, drink some more water to rinse the acid of the teeth. You can also sprinkle a little on your pillow before going to bed to breathe in the fumes while you sleep. I recommend Braggs apple cider vinegar, but any brand that still has “the mother” will work well.

9. Detoxified Iodine

“In 1945, J.D. Stone and Sir McFarland Burnet (who later went on to win a Nobel Prize for his Clonal Selection Theory) exposed mice to lethal amounts of influenza viral mists. The lethal disease was prevented by putting iodine solution on mice snouts just prior to placing them in chambers containing influenza viruses.” I recommend 3 drops 2x daily of Detoxadine until symptoms diminish. Learn more about the different types of iodine supplements.

10. Ultra Pure Colloidal Silver

Many types of Silver are available. GHC has a limited supply of Silver Fuzion, but you can also find good sources online. The only three I would recommend are – Silver Fuzion, Utopia Silver and MesoSilver.

Other Ways to Fight the Flu

Things to avoid while fighting the Flu:

You should try to avoid the following list of foods – Milk and dairy, alcohol, coffee, animal meat or products, microwaved food or beverages, sugar, artificial sweeteners, white flour.

My Personal Note (Dr. Edward F. Group III, DC, ND, DACBN, DABFM)

I would avoid flu vaccines like the plague. Most people do not know this but it is scientifically impossible to create a flu vaccine due to the fact that influenza has a different genetic pattern each time it replicates and is different every year. Each years flu vaccine is created from the previous year. Basically this means that the flu vaccine is nothing more than a money generating toxic injection.

Can vision improve with age?

Below is a testimony sent to me… It’s amazing that if we care for our bodies, they can heal themselves in extraordinary ways. Please be encouraged by this and get in touch with me ([email protected]) if you’re interested in the products listed.

On June 20 2007, I went to the eye doctor to see if I needed bi-focals because the readers I was using were not strong enough.  I seemed to be having a problem seeing clearly with my left eye.  So I thought I just needed a prescription for distance and reading bi-focal glasses.

The doctor, after examining me, said that I should see a specialist because he thought there was something going on in the left eye.

On June 25,2007, I went to a specialist, Dr. Hessburg at the Henry Ford Eye Care Specialists in Grosse Pointe, and the diagnosis was Epiretinal Membrane Macula Traction left eye.  My vision was 20/200.  I did not have macular degeneration or cataracts or glaucoma.

The way it was explained to me was that as we age the vitreous gel inside the eye pulls away, and we get floaters, etc.  Some of the cells create a thin film, and in my case, landed on the center vision area of the macula.  It is sometimes called a “macular pucker.”  He said it would not get worse OR better.  He did say they could do a surgical procedure called vitrectomy and surgically peel the membrane, but he said it was a very intricate procedure and not always successful.

Since I am not a fan of surgery, I chose to carry on with limited vision in that eye.  The only problem I had was a blurred section in the center of my vision but could still see.  I had to keep my right eye open, though, when doing things like putting mascara on my left eye because of the blurred center vision.

In August 2007, when Vitalizer was introduced at the conference, I added it to my list of Shaklee supplements I was already taking.  I also increased my OmegaGuard to 6 per day along with what I was getting in the Vitalizer.

I got another checkup with the specialist in January 2008, and there was a slight improvement — to 20/100.

I saw him again on May 20, 2008 and my vision had improved to 20/70.

When Vivix was introduced on August 8, 2008 at the New Orleans conference, I added Vivix to my daily regimen as well.

Then, I was rechecked by the specialist on October 2, 2008.  To his amazement, my vision had improved to 20/45. He was so curious that he examined me several times to recheck to see if there was an error in the figures.

This was amazing after less than 2 months on Vivix!

I told the specialist what I was taking, and he seemed interested.  But he is still amazed that this has happened when he had told me that my vision would NOT get better.  I asked him how he could explain the improvement, and he did not know.

But those of us who use Shaklee know!

I also went down 2 lens corrections in that left eye and one in the right eye when I recently went back for glasses.
